Savvy Member New York, NY |
Greetings Archery Enthusiasts,
Pop quiz time! What is Deidre's favorite kind of trip to the range? Answer: When I get to bring new members to the range. Saturday started off dreary and cold and goodness knows my bow case with three bows in it is a back breaker, but it's worth it when you've got motivated members willing to make the trip. I was in Penn Station right on time to get my ticket and connect with our new member William. (This is usually the part where I include a link to William's profile, but he hasn't filled one out yet.) Aaaawww. Don't be shy, part of being in club is taking a moment to introduce yourself to everyone else. Anyway, when we got off the train, we hooked up with Damon , who joined the club back in August of 2007, but wasn't able to participate but kept in touch regarding his continued interest. (Keeping the Organizer informed? Always a wise choice.) We had a 10 minute wait for a cab, but enjoyed the $2 a piece price break sharing a cab affords us. We arrived around 12:30 and junior league was already done, so it was easy getting Damon and William all set up with their paperwork and all the rules of the range. What wasn't as easy was watching me go through the contortions to put together our two recurves. Ooof. I need practice?Naaay. Haha. Winging it worked out in the end and I had them up and shooting on the line at 10 yrds. soon enough. Both William and Damon have a good eye for the target, and Damon's form pointed out to me I needed longer arrows for people with a significantly longer reach than any arrow we previously owned. William and Damon are fiends for archery! You'll see from the pictures what 2 hours of shooting without much rest looks like. One of our practice bows is a perfect fit for Damon but William is a left hand shooter, so he was renting a nice one piece recurve, which was the first time he had shot in a few years. Isabella-karine joined us soon after and our long lost Pradeep joined us. Alas! He's heading to California soon, but at least we'll have the pleasure of his company for the next few events. It had been a while since Pradeep had taken on the 28# golden Hoyt and he was feeling it after only a few draws. Practice will make that sting go away. Mark showed up soon after and Ariel made it before 3, bringing some healthy snacks for the entire group. I'm happy to report Ariel shot from the 15 yard line for the first time. Way to go Ariel! Also in the archery news, Mark competed in his first New York State Archery Association indoor tournament. Congratulations Mark! Speaking of Mark, consider this a quick reminder that he practices twice a week and would be happy to meet-up with you at the range on Wednesday or Thursday. I got in some extremely satisfying rounds by 3 PM and have worked out some kinks in my targeting approach that put me solid on the 8 and 9, with at least one 10 every 6 shots. Not bad for only practicing once every 20 days. We called it a day around 4 PM and Ariel and William got a chance to hitch a ride with Pradeep back to the city. Damon and I had to wait around for a cab but the train was on time so the ride back to Penn Station was quick. Remember Ariel and William, keep your LIRR ticket for your next trip to the range. Thanks Pradeep for offering other members a ride back to the city. Another fun day at the range with great support from C&B staff. We've got an "Impromptu for You" event coming up on March 15 and I hope many members we haven't seen in a while can make it. We miss you! Cheers and here's hoping we see you at the range soon.
