Greetings Archery enthusiast:
Hear that thumping sound? That's me patting myself on the back.
Yep, this is an event review completed before Wednesday, which I'm feeling pretty good about.

Once again the weatherman was completely wrong and the weather was absolutely brilliant; didn't have to wear my rain coat or lug bows in the rain.

Getting to Penn Station was a breeze and that meant I was early and could relax with a novel waiting to connect with members. Cory arrived and by checking my blackberry I confirmed no one else was meeting me at Penn Station, so we caught the 11:06 train to Hicksville instead of the 11:16.

We got to the range just as junior league was finishing up and Kim was available to set Cory up with a compound bow and we pretty much had the range to ourselves. Cory started at 10 yards and after some minor adjustments to the bowsight and her form, she immediately started showing some excellent groupings. To put this in perspective, March was the first time she had shot a bow in about two decades. This Saturday was the second time she was shooting and she was showing a healthy number of 8s and 9s.

Congratulations Cory on letting your archery spirit fly! laughing

By 1:00 David arrived and immediately began to warm up with his daughter's recurve. Arriving after David was Paola (with Chachi), and Mark with his fiance Diane. Right behind them was Karine-Isabella and we were a full crew.

Kudos to Paola, as she successfully strung her bow herself. Excellent!

Mark got a new case for his bow and a new sight and is still looking for a buyer for his old bow. If you're interested in a very nice, right-handed bow, take-down recurve, 28#, drop him some email.

Karine-Isabella is showing that her form looks pretty good, but I had to scoot at 3 PM and didn't get a chance to get a picture of her at full draw.

Speaking of which, although pictures of archers at full draw start looking the same they aren't. The primary reason I try to take pictures of members at full draw is because this gives them the opportunity to have a record of what their form looks like over time. It is a great way to see what needs correction. Do I have my draw elbow high enough? Is my body and head straight? Have I dropped my bow arm's shoulder to the right height? A picture is worth a thousand words and I hope the pictures I take of members not only shows they attended, but helps them understand their form.

I gave Paola a little homework before I left and I encourage everyone to feel free to ask me for assistance at the range. I'm here to help.

Another successful event is another great day of practice at C&B Archery: great fun, delicious hot dogs and lots of assistance from staff and other archers.

Cory and I ended the day hitching a rid from Kim and we were on our way back to Manhattan by 3:50.

My utmost thanks to Cory, David, Mark, Paola, Karine-Isabella for making it out this Saturday. Your support is just what a club like ours needs.

Cheers,
